The next star camp runs from Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th October with spaces already filling up! The Kielder Forest Star Camps are run twice a year, in the spring (usually in Feb/March) and in the autumn(usually in October). All activities on the main day (Saturday) are free. Update: as of 22/09/14 non-electrical pitches are available.
From humble beginnings and as a pre-season event, the annual SAS Starbeque event has now become the stuff of legend. Held on Saturday 29th August 2015, starting at 6:30 pm until late. The Cygnus Observatory now has a Skywatcher EQ8 mount – yippee!!. This will considerably help SAS to promote the study of Astronomy in the local community. The society now supplies SAS Membership Cards to all new & current society members, with a membership card holder and lanyard (if required). All members are encouraged to use/display membership cards at our meet ups, visits and events. Jupiter Nights is part of our annual two night astronomical extravaganza, which also coincides with the Stargazing Live shows on BBC2, and that also promotes the BBC’s local astronomy events on the “Things To Do” website. The Cygnus observatory is open tonight from 6 pm. We are expecting a photographer from the Echo tonight for some SAS Fundraiser Promo. Please bring your best looking telescopes and Binoculars with you.
